Letter From Debbie

Hello Everybody;

I meet so many wonderful families on Facelift, but I was truly amazed at the configuration of Judy's extended family.

The best part was that Judy's current husband and her ex are good friends, and everyone joined in to help us with this enormous makeover.

When this design was in the planning stages, I knew that Judy loved having the whole gang together, so to me the pivotal element was a huge, long table in the kitchen.

Demolition is the fun part, so we cleared out the entire kitchen and living room, including the old tile floor. By knocking down an awkward L-shaped counter and widening the opening between the rooms, we found the space to fit in the table.

I am always excited to employ new materials in unusual ways. Plexiglas and metal veneer face the cabinets, vinyl floor tiles line the stairwell wall and stainless steel tiles make up the backsplash.

When I lived in England in the 60s, huge wall murals were in style, and they have returned to what I believe will be a new wave of popularity due to the advent of digital images.

We used a local company to transfer one of Judy's favourite photo images onto vinyl wallpaper and covered a wall of flat-faced cabinets.

It looks stunning positioned at the end of the long table, and I'm sure Judy and her loving family will spend many happy hours in the new hub of the home.

Letter From Judy

Hello Debbie;

My four kids, Jason, Kori, Kimbi and Candice, convinced me to take a few days away and bought me an airline ticket to visit family in Florida. On my return, Denis, my husband, picked me up at the airport and drove me home.

"You go straight in and greet the dogs, they missed you lots," said Dennis.

As I opened the side door leading into the kitchen, I suddenly got totally disoriented. For a second I thought I'd walked into the wrong house. Nothing was familiar, but everything was strangely beautiful. Then to add to the confusion, this person appeared from the living room. It was Debbie Travis!

Taking a few more steps into this incredible kitchen, I could not believe that this was actually MY house. The kitchen floor, cabinets, walls, appliances, accessories were completely new. The living room was totally new, looking so modern and spacious. I could never have envisioned my house looking so beautiful.

It was my daughter Kimbi who instigated the entire surprise. Debbie, you and your amazing team turned my home into something I could only dream about or see in designer magazines. The time that the Facelift team spent together with my family putting this together turned hard work into a great experience.

I owe my gratitude to my beautiful extended family and to you for giving me a home well beyond my wildest imagination. Thank you.
