Letter From Debbie

Hello Everybody;

Kitchens can be, without doubt, the most costly makeovers. And yet, a dated or impractical kitchen can really wear you down as well as ruin the overall feeling in a home.

In André and Puelo's home, there were two important elements missing. The kitchen was so out of step with the rest of the main floor that it was an unwanted distraction.

But also, all the rooms lacked the passion that fit their style. Paint worked its magic to bring drama into the living and dining rooms; gorgeous deep purple is a regal colour that sets off their collection of antique furnishings and livens up the space.

It is a scary colour to roll on and it may overpower you, but it's worth the risk. You may be as pleasantly surprised as these two guys.

But back to expensive kitchen makeovers. The trick is to splurge on one or two items that you adore, and work around them with less expensive choices.

Rather than replace the cabinets, we refaced them with maple veneer and then applied a finish using both oil and water-based varnishes to create the look of fine old wood.

This is labor-intensive, but the results were well worth it. We went basic black for the sink, countertop, appliances and stripes, and found an antique-style brushed brass faucet that looks like a piece of fine sculpture. This kitchen now looks rich and sexy, and enhances the rest of the home.

Letter From Andre

Dear Debbie and the Facelift gang

I could not have been more shocked upon my arrival when I saw the trucks parked in front of the house. At first I thought Puelo might have rented the house to a film production crew. It's only when I saw Debbie and the Facelift truck that I understood what was happening.

Arriving in the apartment I was shocked to see so many people. I could also not believe the dramatic changes you made. It was overwhelming. It took me a little while, but I've grown to love the facelift. I'm most pleased with the results of the kitchen and dining room.

I never, ever would have painted the walls aubergine and then stenciled circles through the entire living room. What a job that must have been. You know what? I love the circles now. No one is more surprised than me.

Even today when I walk in the house, it still feels like a dream. It's hard to describe, unless you've lived it. It's like a fairy came in and waived a magic wand. You leave your home and when you get back it's been completely transformed... in surprising ways you'd never expect.

Merci Debbie and your adorable team. I love the colour, spark and drama you've added to our home. Thank you for sharing your magic.

Warm regards,
Andre D.
